JANES WALK AM 7. un 8. MAI 2011

In Erinnerung an Jane Jacobs, Autorin von “Tod und Leben großer amerikanischer Städte”, einem Meilenstein urbaner Literatur und Stadtkritik, findet jedes Jahr der Jane´s Walk statt. Weltweit werden Stadtführungen angeboten, um gemeinsam Quartiere zu entdecken, die gebaute Umwelt wahrzunehmen und über Architektur, Urbanität und Stadtentwicklung zu diskutieren.

Urbanophil ist 2011 erstmals dabei und bietet zwei Führungen an. Die beiden Spaziergänge sind eine Kooperation von urbanophil und metastadt. Die Teilnahme an den Touren ist kostenlos. Eine Anmeldung ist nicht erforderlich.

1. urbanoTOURS: Die 1970er entdecken – Ein neuer Blick auf das Brunnenviertel

Ein Spaziergang durch das Weddinger Brunnenviertel ist eine Tour durch die Geschichte der Stadterneuerung und die Architektur der späten Nachkriegsmoderne. Städtebau und Architektur des Viertels stammen überwiegend aus den 1970er Jahren. Bauten und Räume dieser Zeit werden meist nur wenig beachtet und wenn, dann werden sie eher, meist von Vorurteilen gelenkt, negativ betrachtet. Das trifft auch auf das Brunnenviertel zu.

Dabei gibt es dort viel Spannendes zu entdecken. Das Gebiet war ein Experimentierfeld für Stadtplanung, Architektur und Formen der Stadterneuerung in den letzten 50 Jahren. Wenn du interessiert an einer Entdeckungstour durch das Experiment Wedding und neugierig auf idyllische Höfe und Plätze, „soft-edged“ Eternit-Pavillons und orangene Plastik-Gebäude bist und wenn du etwas erfahren willst über die Veränderungen in den Ideen und Strategien der Stadterneuerung in Berlin dann komm´ mit auf den Rundgang durch das „Brunnenviertel“.

1. urbanoTOURS: Exploring the 1970ies – a closer view to Berlin Wedding’s Brunnenviertel

A walk through Berlin-Wedding’s „Brunnenviertel“ is a tour through the history of architecture and urban renewal in the period of late Post War Modernism. The urban structures of the neighbourhood and especially the architecture have been built mainly in the 1970ies. What comes to mind when thinking of 1970ies city quarters often is rather negative: those city quarters are often neglected, seemingly nobody likes their architecture, there are many prejudices.

But did you know, that the area had been a field of urban experimentation during the last 50 years? Would you like to take a new look on the architecture, monuments and places that have been constructed there? If you are interested and curious on exploring public spaces, green spaces, pavillons with soft edges made of ethernit and orange plastic buildings and if you like to get to know something about the changes in politics and practices of urban renewal in Berlin than you are very welcome to join our tour through „Brunnenviertel“.

2. urbanoTOURS: The Power of Absence – an experiment on urban perception

I would like to invite you on a tour through the historic city center of Berlin and to guide you to surprisingly beautifull places, squares and buildings, which have been constructed since the second half of the 20th century. Some of these places are neglected, others are openly disliked, others again aren’t even seen – let’s take a look at these sites together and explore our spontanous feelings in an experiment on perception:

Is our perception of a place connected to the facts we know about the place? In how far does our knowledge about the history and the future of a certain neighborhood or site influence our judgement of the present situation? And most of all: what role do absent buildings and structures play when regarding and valuating space?

It does not matter, how much you know about Berlin and the urban space between Spree, Alexanderplatz, Red Town Hall and Klosterstraße: the experience might be surprising. So if you are curious to go on an experimental walk and / or if you are interested in seeing things from a new point of view, I’m looking forward to meet you in Mitte.
